Downtown’s newest Court Center bar experience
Strolling through the doors of Heroes, the newest bar in the Court Center building downtown, one might expect to see crime fighters relaxing after a hard day of taking down villains. But with no superheroes found, the stigma of the name still remains.
“We thought about a lot of different names,” said Rodney Bell, who co-owns the bar with Ted Hawley. “But in the end, we liked that by definition, heroes are an object of envy.”
The owners loved the location and knew it was the right place to open the bar.
“It’s a great spot because there are a number of different bars in this building, and you can bar hop without going outside,” Hawley said. “We’re not a niche bar, and we cater to everybody.”
Happy Hour runs from 3 to 7 p.m., seven days a week. Enjoy $2 domestic draws and wells, as well as $5 domestic pitchers. If you can’t make it for Happy Hour, stop down for one of their numerous nightly specials. On Mondays, enjoy $2 mini pitchers. Tuesday offers two-for-one draws and wells, as well as $5 pitchers. Wednesday is “Cooperate Wednesday,” when patrons can show their ID and get $1 domestic draws and wells from 3 to 9 p.m. and $2 domestic draws and wells from 9 p.m. until midnight. Stop in Thursday for $3 Cuervo drinks, $2 Captain Morgan and Jack Daniels drinks, and $5 pitchers. On Friday, enjoy $4 Crown Royal drinks and Washington Apple shots as well as $5 pitchers from 3 to 10 p.m. Saturday offers $2 Screwdrivers and $5 pitchers from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., $2 Captain Morgan drinks from 7 to 10 p.m. and $3 Lemon Drops from 7 p.m. until close. Close out your weekend with “Sunday Funday” and enjoy $2 mini pitchers and a $4 Bloody Mary bar.
“We have awesome drink specials,” Hawley said. “They have generated a lot of interest and with only being open for a little more than a month, we are having great success.”
The bar has six TVs, a pool table and numerous bar video games to keep patrons happy. A shuffleboard table is also on the way. On Sunday and Monday night, the NFL takes over.
“We have NFL Sunday Ticket,” Bell said. “And we have $2 draws and wells during Monday Night Football.”
The owners call the bar a hybrid because “it mirrors the crowd that is here.”
“We have a great mixture of customers,” Hawley said. “At any given time you could find the regulars, customers wearing suits talking business, or patrons wearing jerseys watching the game. We fill in all the elements that were missing from the building.”
The owners are excited about their early success and want customers to help them grow into the future.
“Not only are we a new place, but we also offer a more personable and intimate bar experience where customers can be themselves,” Bell said. CV
