KFMG, 99.1 FM, the low power, community radio station, went silent Jan. 15 at noon, but might return this summer. Last Thursday, officials with Employee & Family Resources, which have held KFMG’s license since 2007, announced they were immediately ceasing operation of KFMG, cited financial projections outlining the station’s operational expenses and income as a determining factor in removing the station’s on-air operations. The radio station may be transferred to another non-profit group after March 7 pending approval of the Federal Communications Commission. During his Jan. 14 show, KFMG General Manager Ron Sorenson told listeners that he was in the process of creating a new non-profit entity for the purpose of operating KFMG. He said that if the FCC approved the license transfer to his new group that KFMG could be back on the air as early as April, “though more likely by May or June.”
