Passing on gas
Hillary Clinton is doing it.
So is Barack Obama. Even John
McCain has jumped in the mix.
Who isn’t talking about the high
price of gasoline? The subject
now seems to arise not only with
those of us working for a living,
but to the rich and famous as
well.
With prices expected to rise
to $4 a gallon this summer, the
gas discussion certainly won’t
be going away any time soon. We
decided to take a look at the
subject, but from a different
angle than what you have already
read, heard or seen. Editor Michael
Swanger interviewed a handful
of Central Iowans who discovered
alternative ways to lessen the
impact of high gas prices and
do their part to protect the environment
as well. There are George and
Karen Karaidos and their vehicles
that run on vegetable oil. There’s
Assistant Attorney General Brad
Horn and his Suzuki scooter. There’s
the stitched up Scott Holmes and
his recumbent bicycle. And there’s
the multi-tasking Ann Pashek and
her use of a Des Moines Area Regional
Transit Authority program. We
found their stories interesting,
and we think you will, too. And
if that’s not enough, we even
threw in 20 practical tips for
you to save money at the pump.
Cityview Livestrong Bike
Ride
I wanted to drop a short note
to say thanks to the participants,
volunteers and sponsors of our
second annual Cityview Livestrong
bicycle ride, which was held this
past Sunday. The weather didn’t
exactly cooperate with us this
year, but the event was still
a success and was for a great
cause.
Thanks for reading.
