Every so often we come across
a heart-warming story of people
doing good things, and this week’s
cover story is a perfect example.
We publish this at the risk of
being called “soft” by our loyal
politics and crime readers, but
what the hell.
Josh Howell and Jodi Harrington
did something that few of us ever
dream of doing — they quit their
jobs and walked across America
to raise money and awareness for
two diseases that have touched
their lives. Some call this downright
crazy. Others call it true commitment.
They now call it passion, as along
the way, they fell in love with
each other, too.
If a story centered around two
lovers near the bridges in Madison
County can become a major motion
picture, then this one just might
make it as well. As you will see
by the photos, these aren’t your
stereotypical vagrants. They could
be doing many things with their
time and energy, but have chosen
to hike for their causes. And
we are glad they did.
Brewfest is on
We wrote a cover story a few
weeks ago about one of our favorite
subjects — beer. We even
planned our second annual Des
Moines Cityview Brewfest event,
but it was postponed due to issues
related to the flood waters. The
good news is that the event has
been rescheduled for Saturday,
Aug. 2. Go to http://www.dmcityview.com/brewfest
for more information.
Thanks for reading.
